Re-introduction of Native Bird Species

One of the long term aims of the Pomona Island Charitable Trust, once all introduced pests have been eradicated, is to re-introduce a number of bird species native to Fiordland. Species likely to be re-introduced include brown kiwi, saddleback, mohua, kakariki, New Zealand falcon. It is anticipated that other species such as south island robin, south island tomtit, tui, bellbird, kereru, kaka and kea will return to the island via natural means to breed in a safe habitat. The Trust is currently preparing a Restoration Plan for Pomona and Rona Islands.
